Hawaii is such a beautiful place, I was simply baffled at the environment and the beaches ever since I had arrived. The food had been absolutely beautiful during the whole trip and the people were extremely gentle and kind. The island ambiance is a true thing, and I was glad that I could be about people who were living this luxurious life style. One of the highlights from my trip was definitely trying out the food Hawaii had to offer. Although sometimes very different to Western food, it was nonetheless extremely tasty and one of the best foods I had was Ahi Poke Bowls in Kailua-Kona.

Kailua-Kona is one of the northern areas of Hawaii and is known to have some of the best seafood that the island has to offer. I heard this from many of my friends, so I was dying to go to the island and try out the food for myself. I had already tried all of the traditional Hawaiian foods such as spam sushi and all of that great stuff, but I had yet to come across eating poke. Thus, I thought that my stop to Kailua-Kona would have been the best place to go ahead and finally try this extremely praised authentic Hawaiian Ahi Poke Bowls.

I had decided to go to one of the top restaurants in Kailua-Kona to try some real Hawaiian Ahi Poke Bowls and perhaps some fish. The place I had gone to was very busy upon arrival, with crowds standing outside the shop entrance. It was exactly lunch time and it seemed like the place was a huge hit not only with the tourists but with the many locals residents as well.

Hawaiian Ahi Poke Bowl - Ahi Poke Bowls

I ordered some Hawaiian Ahi Poke bowls while in Kailua-Kona and decided to go and try some of their daily special fish as well. I heard that the accompaniment of the Hawaiian Ahi Poke with any sort of fish main was simply divine as you get to go eat the best of both worlds, that is eating cooked and raw fish together.

For those of you who don’t know, Ahi Poke Bowls is a raw fish dish which has become a staple in Hawaiian cuisine. It is basically really beautiful and fresh sashimi fish which is diced up and placed in an equally fresh and delectable marinade which is simply to die for. On top of all this a really exotic and flavorful blend of herbs and spices are added to the mix which gives the whole dish an all powerful kick which is simply just one of a kind and Umekes puts this delectable diced raw fish on top of your choice of starch either white or brown rice or quinoa with a side of healthy sides that could be a spicy crab salad, ho’io salad, crab and broccoli salad among others.

Once I received the food, the first bite I had of the Hawaiian Ahi Poke Bowl was simply divine. It was basically mixing having the best sashimi you could ever imagine but with all of the wonderful freshness of a fresh salad. It is hard to describe, but nonetheless really tasty. The main was also grilled perfectly and served as a great compliment to the Ahi Poke and vice versa. I was really impressed with the incredible taste and quality of the meal at Umekes Poke in Kailua-Kona.

I recommend anyone visiting Hawaii to try out the authentic Hawaiian Ahi Poke in Kailua-Kona at Umekes Poke restaurant for sure.
